 Eastern State Penitentiary Historic Site (ESPHS) seeks outgoing, engaging and passionate people for the part-time, temporary position of Educator. Educators lead tours that deepen the dialogue about American criminal justice reform, from the founding of the penitentiary through to the present day. Educator-led programming includes virtual and in-person tours, brief behind the scenes experiences and staffing frontline positions working directly with the historic site’s broad, general interest audience. At busy times of year, Educators can lead several tours a day. 

Other responsibilities include welcoming and directing visitors, facilitating informal onsite conversations, answering questions, explaining various programming options, tidying activity stations, performing basic maintenance and cleaning tasks, and upholding safety and security standards. Please note that Educators spend their workday in outdoor conditions.

The Assistant, Strategy & Development is a key contributor to the National Constitution Center’s mission and strategic goals. This position is the perfect fit for an individual looking for exposure to the full range of fundraising and development operations and best practices, working closely with the Chief Strategy Officer and Vice President of Strategy & Development, and who desires to join a small, high-tempo team, with opportunities for great growth potential. This position will help ensure that the strategy and development team is creating, cultivating, and sustaining key donor and prospect relationships, developing long-term strategies and fundraising pitches, and executing against other critical projects.

The Assistant, Strategy & Development plays a key role in the cultivation, strategy, and administrative duties related to the Center’s highest dollar donors (members of the President’s Council), as well as foundation and corporate donors and prospects, and assisting as needed with our membership program. Areas of responsibility include donor management and cultivation via drafting donor communications, conducting donor and prospect research, and preparing background briefings for meetings; management of internal tracking systems and ensuring the quality of donor and prospect data in the Center’s database and marketing systems; logistical and administrative duties; and other projects as assigned.

 

The ideal candidate is strongly committed to the NCC’s nonpartisan mission and is motivated by our important task ahead. We welcome candidates who have recently obtained their bachelor’s degree or who are graduating in December 2022, as well as candidates with a couple of years of experience in nonprofit development and fundraising. The individual in this position must be able to exercise discretion on sensitive matters, be well organized, detail-oriented, have strong written and verbal communication skills and great time management, and be able to execute projects and tasks with minimal supervision.

To undergird our ambitions, we seek a dynamic and entrepreneurial Development Manager who will help take our development operations to the next level. This position is a perfect fit for an individual looking to join a small, motivated development team with high growth potential and to take ownership of projects, execute at an exceptional level, and make an immediate impact.

The Development Manager will be responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding a national portfolio of individual donors (under $10K giving level, to include our 1787 Society donors), cultivating these donors and prospects personally. This position will conduct the range of fundraising cultivation activities, from donor research to in-person and virtual meetings, phone calls, letters, and emails, and oversee the integrity of individual donor data in the NCC’s database. The Development Manager will also be a key contributor in growing our newly launched Legacy Society of individual donors who have shared their intention of making an estate gift to the NCC.

Additionally, this position will be responsible for managing the strategy and day-to-day execution of our more regionally based Membership Program (under $1K supporters). Tasks will include managing the solicitation and renewal process, planning Member-only events, and overseeing all membership customer service systems to deliver the best-in-class communications with our members.

The Education and Visitors Experience Division provides meaningful learning opportunities for the National Constitution Center onsite visitors and students in classrooms around the country through our virtual programming. Through a diverse portfolio of interpretive experiences, engaging programs, and online resources, we expand each learner’s understanding of, and appreciation for, the Constitution and its relevance today. 

 

The Education and Visitors Experience team is composed of the Visitor Experience, Online Education, and Educator Professional Development. In sum total this group comprises more than 50 full-time, part-time staff and volunteer staff members who connect the Center’s mission to a variety of audiences using onsite and offsite programming and physical and digital projects.
