BalletX’s in-school outreach program, Dance eXchange, is seeking an enthusiastic, responsible pianist for the 2017-18 school year. Our teaching artists and musicians work with 3rd and 4th graders at three Center City, Philadelphia school, with class sizes ranging from 20-30.

Based on the award-winning methodology of the National Dance Institute (NDI), Dance eXchange uses live music and structured creative learning to teach Philadelphia students the basic vocabulary of dance, while fostering personal growth skills like self-confidence, focus, teamwork, and determination.

Accompanist Responsibilities include:

  • Working in tandem with dance Teaching Artists to support and accompany Dance eXchange classes
  • Lead “Spotlight on the Musician,” a portion of the class devoted to educating the students on music theory, instruments, and aspects of being a musician that support the Dance eXchange yearly theme
  • Assist with Final Performances in early 2018

Qualifications:

  • Experience accompanying dance classes with piano and drums
  • Energy, enthusiasm, and a love for education and children.
  • Available from September 25- September 29, 2017 for our annual Dance eXchange Teacher Training Residency
  • Commit to weekly in-school classes from September 2017-March 2018, plus curricular planning meetings with fellow teaching artists and Final Performance in February 2018
  • Must have, or can obtain PA Criminal Clearance, FBI Background Check, and PA Child Abuse Clearance
  • BA or BFA in Music Education or Performance preferred, or equivalent experience
