Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8AM-4PM or 9AM-5PM with a daily 30-minute unpaid lunch. Occasional early morning, evening, weekend, and holiday hours.
Duration: Seasonal with possible extension
Position Summary
The Betsy Ross House is seeking a Temporary Facilities Manager to oversee the care and maintenance of our historic property. This position plays an essential role in preserving the site’s historic buildings, grounds, and visitor spaces while ensuring daily operations run smoothly. The Facilities Manager works closely with the Director and Collections staff to maintain the integrity and safety of this nationally recognized historic site.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance on the historic house, annex buildings, and courtyard.
- Recommend appropriate maintenance and repair projects to the Director of the Betsy Ross House.
- Work closely with the Director and Collections Department staff to ensure the long-term preservation and care of the site’s property and structures.
- Assist with the construction and installation of museum exhibitions.
- Clean and straighten the historic house, offices, and grounds daily.
- Leaf, snow, and trash removal, as needed.
- Responsible for cleaning and maintaining public and staff restrooms.
- Serve in a security role as needed to ensure the safety of visitors, staff, and the historic property.
- Manage inventory of cleaning and restroom supplies and place orders as needed.
- Assist in setup for programs and events.
- Respond to weekend and/or evening site emergencies (fire or security alarms).
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience in facilities management, building maintenance, or a related field (experience with historic properties is a plus).
- Ability to perform basic building trades duties, eg. plumbing, electric, carpentry
- Ability to perform hands-on maintenance tasks and oversee contractors.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with staff across departments.
- Reliable, detail-oriented, and committed to maintaining a high standard of care for a historic site.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift supplies and equipment as needed.
- Ability to stand, walk, and perform maintenance tasks for extended periods.
- Ability to climb ladders.
