Dance eXchange Assistant Teaching Artist

Mid-Year Appointment | 2025–2026 School Year

BalletX seeks a creative, reliable, and passionate Assistant Teaching Artist to join its in-school education program, Dance eXchange, for the remainder of the 2025–2026 school year.

This is a mid-year hire. The Assistant Teaching Artist will support an established program and work under the direction of a Lead Teaching Artist and Musician.

Dance eXchange serves 3rd and 4th-grade students at Philadelphia public schools during the school day. Through dance, students build movement vocabulary, artistic confidence, and a sense of belonging in a collaborative classroom environment.

Ideal Candidates

Assistant Teaching Artists come from a variety of dance backgrounds and are excited to support teaching and learning in a school-based setting. Ideal candidates:

• Are practicing dancers with professional training and/or performance experience
• Have an interest in arts education and working with children

• Demonstrate strong musicality and movement clarity
• Support positive, inclusive classroom environments

• Are dependable, communicative, and professional

Responsibilities

Assistant Teaching Artist responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Supporting weekly, in-person Dance eXchange classes alongside the Lead Teaching Artist and musician
• Assisting with movement demonstration, student engagement, and classroom management
• Supporting existing choreography and curriculum already in progress
• Assisting with preparation for culminating performances
• Participating in required trainings and professional development
• Communicating promptly and professionally with BalletX staff and teaching artist teams

Compensation & Requirements

• Teaching rate: $25–$35/hour, commensurate with experience
• Administrative rate: $20/hour
• Required criminal background and child abuse clearances, in accordance with BalletX policy
