Brian Sanders’ Junk seeks an experienced Technical Director for its Virtual Reality and Performance Project, from approximately April 8 - November 30, 2019. The Technical Director will be responsible for planning and supervising the execution of all scenic, lighting, sound, special effects and other such elements of the project; collaborating with the Virtual Reality team from Drexel University, and providing the necessary technical support; working with the Project Director, create, refine and track technical budgets and the engagement of technical personnel[BS1] ; ensure safety in all rehearsal and performance situations; and oversee maintenance of all technical aspects of the project through its conclusion.

A candidate with ability/interest in lighting, set and/or sound design may be engaged for one or more of those assignments in parallel with technical direction.

It is anticipated that the Technical Director will be busiest during April and August/September[BS2] , when the two major segments of the project are in preparation. During the remainder of the period, the Technical Director will be needed for certain specific dates/times, plus agreed-upon times for meetings, planning, communication, etc.

Qualifications: The Technical Director will have a demonstrated  knowledge of techniques, methods and procedures of theatre, dance, and music productions and presentations including stage, set, sound and lighting design and implementation; stage management; computerized lighting systems; stage carpentry; appropriate safety precautions and procedures. S/he will have the ability to analyze and evaluate the need for technical support for various events and performances; plan, develop, schedule and provide the technical supports required for the project; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; construct sets; supervise the installation of lighting and sound systems; oversee stage crews and volunteers; perform minor repairs and preventative maintenance on equipment; maintain inventory of necessary supplies; assist in budget preparation; establish and maintain effective working relationships with representatives of various groups, vendors, co-workers , and others.[BS3] Experience installing site-specific work in alternative venues and dealing with licensing, electrical, egress is a plus.
