Samuel S. Fleisher Art Memorial

Reports To: Manager of Adult Education

Position Classification: Part-Time Faculty

Wage Classification: Hourly, Non-Exempt

Start Date: January 2026

Fleisher is seeking a skilled and enthusiastic teaching artist to lead stained glass and mosaic classes for both adults and teenagers. This part-time role includes teaching beginner-level classes, one-time "jumpstart" workshops, and special events that introduce new audiences to the creative possibilities of glass. We’re especially interested in artists who enjoy making art accessible, social, and engaging across age groups.

You’ll guide students in learning foundational stained-glass techniques, such as foiling and leading, as well as basic mosaic work, helping them feel confident, creative, and supported. Whether teaching a one-day workshop, 10-week adult class, or Saturday morning youth class, you’ll play a key role in cultivating a welcoming, hands-on environment for all participants.

Who You Are

You're a passionate glass artist and educator with experience working with both teens and adults. You’re skilled at introducing technical processes in a way that’s fun, clear, and safe, and you know how to adapt your teaching style to different learning needs. You're enthusiastic about community art and enjoy fostering creative connections in a studio setting. You value accessibility, inclusivity, and the power of shared creative experiences. Whether leading a longer course or a social one-off event, you're excited to help people discover the joy of working with glass.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver fun, engaging stained glass and mosaic lessons for adults and teens
  • Collaborate with Fleisher’s program staff to prepare materials and supply lists
  • Arrive 15 minutes early to set up and manage clean-up with student support
  • Maintain a safe and inclusive studio environment across all age groups
  • Communicate clearly and in a timely manner with Fleisher staff about schedules, supplies, and any classroom needs
  • Represent Fleisher’s values of creativity, access, and community in every interaction

Qualifications

  • Experienced teaching artist with strong skills in stained glass and basic mosaic techniques
  • Minimum of 2 years teaching experience (or equivalent community-based experience), ideally with both teens and adults
  • Comfortable leading both structured courses and informal, social workshops
  • Able to create a welcoming, inclusive space for students with diverse backgrounds and experience levels
  • Excellent classroom management and communication skills
  • Bilingual or multilingual (Spanish, Indonesian, Khmer, Mandarin, or Cantonese) is a plus

Faculty Benefits

  • $35/hour (includes paid time for setup and cleanup)
  • Tuition waiver for one class or workshop per term
  • Participation in the Annual Faculty Exhibition
  • Free admission to the Philadelphia Museum of Art
  • Annual Fleisher Membership
