The Computer & Network Support Technician assist in the performance of the daily duties of PTM users regarding computers, software, network technology and the operation of audio-visual equipment. Reporting to the Senior Director, Security & IT Operations, the technician(s) in this position share technology responsibilities for support of the Museum’s computers, network devices, projectors, TV’s, printers, cameras, and other department technology equipment. Tasks will include user support, computer and network maintenance and audio-visual setup and monitoring for events. 

This position is part of the AFSCME Local 397 bargaining unit. 

Status: Part Time, Non-Exempt

Anticipated Schedule: 8:30am – 5:00pm; Friday – Sunday 

Salary: $23.36/Hour

Essential Responsibilities:

The Computer & Network Support Technician working with various technologies will support multiple aspects of museum operations. Primary responsibilities include but will not be limited to the following: 

  • Manage and set up Audio/Video Soundboard Connections for events 
  • Build, configure, set up and install equipment such as laptops, desktops, telephones, video cameras, projectors, etc. 
  • Troubleshooting Wi-Fi connections and printer problems 
  • Servicing onsite computers, credit card-readers and copier connections 
  • Installing and terminating network cable connections 
  • Servicing Museum Display monitors and projectors 
  • Servicing security cameras and video controller systems 
  • Servicing Point-of-Sale computers, Kiosks, Totems and Hand scanners 
  • Servicing Sound Boards and Light Controller Computer in Museum Theater 
  • Onsite support of equipment during meetings and events requiring audio and visual presentations 
  • Train existing and new staff and employees on upgrades, changes and improvements to software and computer systems 
  • Other daily tasks, projects and duties as assigned by the Senior Director, Security & IT Operations

Minimal Qualifications:

  • General Education Diploma (GED) required. 
  • Vocational/Technical school degree, associate’s degree or higher in Computer Technology or Network Technology preferred. 
  • Background experience with Apple/Macintosh, Windows 8 through Windows 11. 
  • CompTIA A+, CompTIA Net+ or Microsoft Azure Desktop certification, preferred. 
  • Experience with Office 365 applications (i.e., Word, Outlook, Excel, Teams, etc.) 
  • Ability to work at least one weekend day (Saturday or Sunday). 
  • Availability to work on evenings, and holidays in addition to weekdays. 
  • Must be able to work as team member or individually with supervisor, peers, and outside contractors.

  • Must have PA Act 153 clearances (PA criminal history, FBI fingerprints, and PA Child Abuse) completed prior to hire.
