Position Summary:
Art Handlers / Installers are responsible for handling and packing, installing, transporting and storing artwork in a safe and secure manner.
Since Baldwin provides services to private clients as well as large institutions, this position requires individuals who are able to be professional and adapt to a variety of environments with clients and coworkers alike. This position requires some travel for client work.
Job Responsibilities Include:
- Handle and move fine art, decorative art, and fine furniture
- Installation / deinstallation of various artworks in commercial spaces, galleries, museums, and client’s homes
- Use of industry standard packing, crating, and safety techniques when handling artworks
- Packing artwork, loading, and unloading of trucks
- Operating/maintaining company vehicles in a safe and responsible manner, arriving at destinations on schedule
- Communicating and coordinating with crew chiefs, crew, and clients on site in a professional manner
- Maintaining a safe and accurate inventory of items in warehouse storage
- Completion of daily paperwork and BOLs
A successful candidate will have the following attributes:
- Proactive, organized, team player with the ability to effectively communicate and receive instructions
- Proven ability to operate basic power tools
- A minimum of 2 years experience art handling / installing in a similar role
- Working knowledge and interest in fine art, decorative art, design, or something similar
- Knowledge of fine art industry-standard packing, crating, and installation techniques and materials
- Familiarity with Paperwork, BOLs, Inventory, Daily Logs
- Familiarity with inventory systems or collections management
- Strong attention to detail, discretion, initiative, and follow-through
- The ability to lift and move heavy objects up to 70lbs
- Rigging / Crating experience is a plus
This is a part-time position that requires a training trial and 3-month probationary period. Preference will be given to those with previous experience in art handling as well as those with the proven ability to operate a box truck. The company provides competitive hourly pay with flexible scheduling starting at $20-$26 hourly. Compensation based on experience.
