Job Description
Rooted in Arab arts, culture, and language, Al-Bustan Seeds of Culture offers artistic and educational programming that enriches understanding and celebrates diversity, while supporting the pursuit and affirmation of Arab American cultural identity and playing a constructive civic role within broader American society.
Al-Bustan is seeking teaching artists whose work connects to the arts and culture of the Arabic speaking world and the MENA region to join our roster and work with our School Arab Arts program.
School Arab Arts (SAA) is an arts education program in partnership with Philadelphia public elementary and middle schools. The aim of SAA is to enrich cross-cultural understanding and celebrate diversity through in-school and after school classes in visual art, music, and other more. The program runs from October to May with visual arts classes occurring Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Our SAA program works with students grades K-8.
Applicants should have 1-2 years of experience working with grade school students in visual arts, performing arts, or literary arts drawing from Arab culture.
Responsibilities:
- Program facilitation opportunities typically range 1-5 hours per week
- Prepare lesson plans for classes
- Travel to each school
- Consistent communication with the Education Coordinator and Sr. Programs Manager
Desired Qualifications (not all are required):
- Personal transport required
- Mandatory School Clearances required
- Experience, connection, and/or work within the community
- Teaching experience with children/adolescents and comfort with diverse audiences
- Classroom management skills
