Rock to the Future

The Education Assistant supports Rock to the Future’s MusiCore After School programming by creating a warm, structured, and student-centered environment in the Ready for the Future (RFTF) space. This role provides individualized and group academic support, supports youth in life skills and college/career readiness activities, and collaborates with the Education Manager to ensure that students are progressing in alignment with their education and post-secondary goals. The Education Assistant helps maintain consistent communication, supports workshop facilitation, and ensures daily operations in the education space run smoothly.

Reports to: Education Manager

Schedule: Estimated 19 hours weekly, Monday - Thursday, 1:30-6:15pm

Location: MusiCore Kensington (M & W) and MusiCore Germantown (T & Th)

Compensation: $22/hour

Essential Job Functions

  • Create a welcoming, quiet, and supportive space for middle and high school students to complete homework and participate in educational enrichment activities.
  • Support the implementation of college/career readiness and life skills workshops, utilizing materials such as OnTrack, Step Up to College, and guest speaker sessions.
  • Assist with data collection and tracking of student grades, attendance, academic progress, and graduation benchmarks, under the direction of the Education Manager.
  • Help facilitate and supervise small group and independent tutoring sessions; coordinate volunteer support when appropriate.
  • Lead or co-facilitate culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate activities focused on academic, social-emotional, and personal growth.
  • Prepare the RFTF space daily for student use, ensuring materials are ready, the space is organized, and students feel supported.
  • Distribute daily meals/snacks and maintain accurate food count records.
  • Attend weekly meetings with the Education Manager to share updates, successes, and student needs.
  • Support college and trade school research, application processes, and scholarship opportunities for students as assigned.
  • Uphold Rock to the Future’s Rules of Rock, values of equity and inclusion, and trauma-informed approaches in all student interactions.
  • Assist with cleaning, organizing, and administrative tasks as needed.
  • Attend student performances, family events, and team trainings (e.g., Year End Showcase, professional development workshops).

Education and Experience Required: 

  • 2-years experience working with middle school and/or high school students
  • Lived experiences similar to those of our students served with a preference for residents of Philadelphia County and specifically Southwest, West, North, and Northwest neighborhoods

Skills Required: 

  • Must be motivated, energetic, punctual, responsible, and exhibit a positive attitude to be an excellent role model 
  • Ability to lead, teach, and interact with students, team, and volunteers
  • Full commitment to the mission/philosophy of Rock to the Future
  • Excitement and positive attitude toward working with youth from underserved communities
  • Dedication to the pursuit of continuous learning (for self and students)
  • Preferred skills: Experience with trauma informed practices and restorative practices
Education Level:
