Key Responsibilities
The Development & Marketing Officer will lead fundraising efforts while integrating marketing strategies that enhance donor engagement, promote site programming, and raise public awareness.
Fundraising (Core Focus Area)
- Create and implement an annual Fundraising Plan in collaboration with the Fundraising Committee and Site Director.
- Cultivate and steward relationships with individual, corporate, and foundation donors through campaigns, appeals, and personal outreach.
- Oversee annual giving campaigns and donor recognition programs.
- Identify private and public funding opportunities; draft and support grant proposal content and targeted fundraising initiatives aligned with the site’s operational priorities.
- Analyze fundraising performance and report outcomes to the Board with strategic recommendations.
- Proactively secure event and program sponsorships, with a focus on engaging corporate partners and other potential funders aligned with Pennsbury Manor’s mission.
- Demonstrate working knowledge of Pennsylvania’s Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) program and leverage it as a tool for donor engagement.
- Analyze fundraising performance and report outcomes to the Board with strategic recommendations.
- Represent Pennsbury Manor as the lead advocate for fundraising efforts, building a culture of philanthropy within the organization.
Marketing (Integrated Support)
- Lead marketing initiatives that align with and support fundraising efforts, public engagement, and educational programming.
- Generate compelling content for print and digital platforms, including donor materials, social media, email newsletters, and the website.
- Coordinate with the Site Director and Board to manage press outreach, public relations, and media engagement.
- Collaborate on event marketing and help ensure programming efforts are promoted with fundraising in mind.
- Ensure consistent branding and storytelling across all public-facing communications.
Qualifications & Relevant Experience
We’re seeking a proactive, creative, and mission-driven professional with the following background:
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, nonprofit management, public history, or related field.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in nonprofit development and/or marketing.
- Experience working with or supporting a nonprofit board or committee structure.
- Proven success with donor cultivation, campaigns, or membership programs.
- Hands-on experience managing marketing and communication strategies, including social media, newsletters, and basic graphic design tools.
- Experience working with a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) or donor management systems and software.
Desirable Skills & Interests
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across stakeholder groups.
- Attention to detail, with solid organizational and project management capabilities.
- Experience in historic sites, museums, or educational nonprofits.
- Understanding of how state/local government funding works, including familiarity with public grant programs or budgeting processes relevant to cultural or educational institutions.
- Interest in Pennsylvania history, museums, or cultural heritage preservation.
- Willingness to work some evenings and weekends for special events and fundraising activities.
