Position Overview
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Development Intern to support DiasporaDNA’s outreach and fundraising efforts. This internship offers hands-on experience in nonprofit communications, digital engagement, and donor development. It is an excellent opportunity for students or early-career professionals interested in gaining practical skills in the nonprofit sector while contributing to meaningful social impact.
This is a hybrid position, with some work taking place remotely and some requiring in-person attendance at our office. Additionally, the intern will be asked to support weekend events on occasion; advanced notice will always be provided for any weekend commitments.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the creation of marketing materials, reports, and donor communications
- Research prospective donors, grants, and partnership opportunities
- Help maintain the donor database and track fundraising campaigns
- Assist in planning, promoting, and working in-person events
- Monitor engagement analytics and recommend ways to improve outreach
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including occasional weekends (with notice)
Qualifications
- 1 - 2 years of experience
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Interest in nonprofit work, community development, or social impact
- Familiarity with social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc.)
- Basic knowledge of design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Spark) is a plus
- Detail-oriented, reliable, and proactive
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a team
- Experience with donor platforms (e.g. GiveButter, Kindful, or similar) is a plus but not required
Compensation
This is a volunteer role and a great opportunity for anyone interested in Development and grant writing for nonprofits. This is a hands-on role that allows the volunteer to learn by doing and sharpen their skills.
