Play On Philly (POP) is a non-profit organization that provides daily, after-school music instruction to over 300 K-12 students. We work in communities that historically have had little or no access to formal music education. Job Description

POP’s involvement at Roman Catholic includes in-school instruction for the student body at the school. One aspect of this program is the piano lab. In the 2025-2026 school year, we will have 2 sections of piano lab, each with 10-15 students most of whom are beginners. The Piano Instructor will consult with POP’s Roman Catholic Program Manager to determine appropriate activities for each student group. The instructor is also responsible for reporting a grade for each student in their section each week; guidance for criteria and standards of grading will be provided.

 

We are looking for lifelong learners and collaboratively natured individuals who enjoy and have experience working with high-schoolers, are creative, and can problem-solve and multi-task.  

  

A successful candidate:

  • You are passionate about music education.
  • You are calm under pressure.
  • You have experience with teaching groups of five or more students at once.
  • You are excited to serve a community through music. 

 

Requirements

  • You are a professional musician specializing in piano.
  • You have at least one year of formal music teaching experience with young people.
  • You can work occasional nights and weekends as required.

 

Compensation

Hourly Teaching Rate: $45 Hourly Admin Rate: $20

 

Work Commitment

September 2, 2025 – June 11, 2026;

     *potentially included in Roman Catholic New Teacher Orientation days, August 19-21, 2025

 

Mondays through Fridays, 7th and 8th periods (approximately 1:00-2:45pm)

 

Classes follow the Roman Catholic academic calendar, including federal holidays, religious holidays, and early dismissals. The Program Manager will communicate any closures or schedule shifts with as much advance notice as possible.
