Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Facility Rentals & Event Management (50%)
- Manage the full rental process, including inquiries, site visits, scheduling, contracts, and communication with renters
- Enter rental details into the scheduling system and coordinate with staff and partners to avoid conflicts
- Serve as on-site event supervisor during evening/weekend rentals on a rotating schedule shared with the Manager and other staff
- Oversee and assist with set-up, clean-up, and room readiness; ensure safety, security, and adherence to facility rules
- Coordinate with building/grounds staff to ensure spaces are clean, safe, and properly supplied before and after events
Leadership & Operations Support (25%)
- Serve as second in leadership to the Center Manager and act as point person in their absence
- Assist with oversight of daily operations, staff coordination, and visitor services
- Provide leadership in implementing safety guidelines, operational procedures, and emergency response
- Support training, direction, and evaluation of staff and volunteers
Community Engagement (10%)
- Engage visitors of all ages on The Discovery Center’s history, amenities, resources, and available programming when covering the information desk or on grounds
- Promote programs and events by preparing flyers, posters, and media content
- Support school and public programs as assigned
Grounds, Facility & Safety Support (10%)
- Assist in planning and implementing grounds maintenance tasks, including invasive species removal, trail upkeep, and general outdoor stewardship
- Support facility cleanliness, and inventory management of tools, equipment, and supplies
- Monitor and report safety hazards, facility issues, and visitor concerns
Administrative & Financial Support (5%)
- Assist with financial transactions, inventory tracking, and basic record-keeping
- Help maintain booking logs, rental revenue records, and operational documentation
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in environmental education, hospitality, event management, recreation, or a related field
- 2+ years of experience in nature centers, parks, event hosting, facility management, or customer-facing operations
- Excellent communication, customer service, and problem-solving skills
- Strong organizational ability and attention to detail
- Ability to lift 25–50 lbs, work indoors/outdoors in varied weather, and be on your feet for extended periods
- Proficiency with Google Workspace, scheduling platforms, and email communication
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to speak Spanish is a plus
- Experience supervising staff or volunteers
- Knowledge of local ecology, birds, or conservation fieldwork
Work Schedule and Compensation
- Full-time, Tuesday through Saturday and rotating evening coverage for events
- Shared event coverage ensures no single employee is responsible for all rental events
- $21-$22/hr, 40 hours per week
- Overtime eligible
