Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide creative leadership for the Museum’s brand identity and voice, ensuring cohesion across all touchpoints, while emphasizing heterodox thinking and diversity of thought.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive communications and marketing strategy specifically designed to drive visitation, grow program attendance, and expand earned revenue, while also supporting fundraising and institutional partnerships.
  • Create and oversee development of communication and marketing content, collateral, and campaigns that directly increase ticket sales, memberships, rentals, and other revenue-generating activities, alongside community engagement goals.
  • Manage media relations, including press releases, story pitching, and reputation management, with a strong focus on securing visibility that translates to attendance and revenue.
  • Oversee production of marketing and promotional materials; manage relationships with designers, agencies, and third-party vendors to maximize audience reach and conversion.
  • Implement and track analytics to measure attendance, revenue growth, and ROI across paid, owned, and earned media channels; report regularly on performance and adjust strategies to ensure continuous growth.
  • Collaborate with the Advancement Committee and Museum Advisory Groups to maximize visibility, audience reach, and earned revenue opportunities.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders across all departments to ensure messaging supports institutional goals and prioritizes audience growth and revenue generation.
  • Train, mentor, and empower staff to develop skills that contribute to marketing innovation and revenue-driving outcomes.

  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills, with the ability to adapt messaging to different audiences and inspire attendance, memberships, and donor support.
  • Demonstrates exceptional communication skills to navigate a polarized society around a complex topic, managing differing perspectives, and fostering an environment of civil discourse with professionalism, respect, and tact. Communicates effectively under pressure, ensuring clarity and building trust.
  • Proven ability to design and execute campaigns that grow attendance, participation, and revenue through creative problem-solving and data-driven decision-making.
  • Strong analytic capabilities; data-driven mindset with ability to translate audience insights into strategies that expand reach, increase sales, and improve ROI.
  • Naturally collaborative, with skills in organizing work and supervising teams for maximum effectiveness in driving results.
  • A tactful, professional communicator with proven success in cultivating media, community, and strategic partnerships that lead to measurable audience and revenue growth.

 

Experience and Qualifications

  • Demonstrated success in communications and marketing strategy, digital engagement, customer acquisition, and brand management.
  • Experience developing, implementing, and evaluating multi-year communications and marketing plans with measurable results in visibility, attendance, fundraising, and/or revenue.
  • Background in leading communications and marketing efforts during organizational transition, facility expansion, or a capital campaign.
  • Experience managing budgets and financial projections; strong organizational management skills.
  • Track record of using data and analytics to evaluate communications and marketing effectiveness.
  • Experience with the production of marketing and communications materials, including oversight of designers, agencies, and third-party providers.
  • Knowledge of traditional marketing techniques, along with digital marketing platforms, online and mobile advertising, email marketing, and social media management tools.
  • Familiarity with museum operations, the arts industry, or cultural organizations preferred; knowledge of U.S. and Philadelphia history and culture is a plus.
