Afterschool Visual Art
The winter/spring teaching artist afterschool position begins February 10th and runs to May 21st. Drawing and painting are the focus with the ability to incorporate other mediums. The classes run two times per week on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:00 - 5:30 pm. West Park Cultural Center operates afterschool programming in West Philadelphia. Program participants range in age from 10 to 13 witha class size of 15.
Requirements and Responsibilities
- Experience working with children and youth (preferably in Philadelphia public schools or in extracurricular programs with SDP students)
- Bring positive energy
- Develop thoughtful, engaging, culturally relevant and age-appropriate lesson plans focused on skill-building, creative exploration, and technique
- Demonstrate flexibility, compassion and professionalism in dynamic classroom environments
- Arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the start of class
- Maintain clear and timely communication with the Program and Education Manager regarding supplies and curriculum
- Notify the Program and Education Manager as soon as possible regarding any delays in arrival, or absences
Required Clearances
- Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check
- PA Department of Human Services Child Abuse History Clearance
- FBI Fingerprint-Based Criminal History Clearance
- Child Abuse Mandated Reporter Training Certificate (this training is available online)
Education Level
College or Meaningful Experience working with children in visual art
Compensation
Pay is $60 per class (1.5 hr) and made by echeck every two weeks, plus an additional $20 per week for class preparation.
