NLArts Community Arts Program

NLArts is seeking Lead Teaching Artists to join our creative community for the 2026 Summer Camp season in Northern Liberties. The 8-session program serves students entering Kindergarten through 8th Grade, as well as high school aged Junior Counselors. Teaching Artists develop and lead creative arts projects and support outdoor programming in groups separated by age band. Each session theme aligns with NLArts’ Curriculum, encouraging expressive, interdisciplinary, and exploratory experiences.

Teaching hours are from 8:30am to 3:30pm, Monday through Friday, with up to an hour of flexible paid prep time before or after hours. Candidates may apply for specific age groups and weekly sessions based on availability and connection to the theme. Remote and onsite paid safety training will occur prior to the start of camp.

☺ K–1st Grade (Nuggets)
☺ 1st–2nd Grade (Pretzels)
☺ 3rd–5th Grade (Hoagies)

★ Session 2: June 22–26 (World Culture)
★ Session 3: July 6–10 (Community & Public Art)
★ Session 4: July 13–17 (Comics & Illustration)
★ Session 5: July 27–31 (Creative Economy & Business)
★ Session 6: August 3–7 (Creative Voice)
★ Session 7: August 10–14 (STREETCATZ Production Week)
★ Session 8: August 17–21 (STREETCATZ Performance Week)

Qualifications / Desired Skills
★ Minimum 2 years experience developing and facilitating art lessons in educational settings
★ Ability to interpret curriculum and design engaging, process-based projects
★ Commitment to inclusive, student-centered classroom environments
★ Strong classroom management grounded in relationship-building
★ Experience supervising assistants, interns, or youth leaders
★ Clear communication and organizational skills
★ Adaptability within a structured daily schedule
★ Ability to work outdoors during summer months and lift 25 lbs
Required: FBI Fingerprints & PA Child Abuse Clearance, additional safety certifications a plus.

 

Primary Responsibilities / Lead Teaching Artists report and partner with the Camp Director and collaborate with teaching assistants and youth leadership participants.

★ Instruction & Leadership

  • Design and implement lesson plans aligned with session themes
  • Prepare materials and visual inspiration
  • Demonstrate techniques and supervise art-making
  • Facilitate reflection and presentation of student work
  • Delegate tasks to Junior Counselors, CITs, and camp support
  • Participate in weekly Friday Showcase exhibitions
     

★ Supervision & Safety

  • Lead campers in all classroom transitions and during all field trips, outdoor activities, and guest artist visits
  • Maintain constant supervision and follow all safety protocols
     

★ Studio & Facility Care

  • Maintain clean and organized classrooms
  • Implement camper cleanup systems
  • Properly store and label student artwork

Compensation
This is a 1099 independent contractor position at $28–$30/hour. Contractors are responsible for their own tax reporting. This temporary position may lead to school-year opportunities.
