PYCE is comprised of the Philadelphia Boys Choir and Chorale, the Philadelphia Girls Choir, and the Commonwealth Youth Choir. Each program contains multiple age-based ensembles, encompassing a holistic music educating and performing experience for children ages 6-18.

Position Summary

The position of Choral Operations Assistant at Philadelphia Youth Choral Ensembles (PYCE) is designed to provide support for the singers and conductors of PYCE.

The Choral Operations Assistant fosters a safe, inclusive, and professional environment where singers can achieve their musical and artistic potential. The Choral Operations Assistant will help manage drop off and pick up at rehearsals and performances, and assist directors in preparations for rehearsals and offsite performances; as well as assist directors with logistical needs for performances and tours. They also will provide administrative support by helping families with tuition payments, questions, and attendance needs.  Excellent communication and organizational skills are essential for the position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist choristers, families, and audiences with questions, rehearsal logistics, concert set up and breakdown, attendance, and tuition payments
  • Ensure building safety and security; communicate and enforce building guidelines and rules; safely close and secure building at end of shift.
  • Provide accurate information, on the phone and in person, about PYCE rehearsals, events, auditions, lessons, and programs.
  • Assist with event/concert setup and breakdown, e.g. setting and removing chairs, preparing concert programs, maintaining equipment, risers, music stands, and pianos.
  • Ensure the safety of our youngest choristers at drop off and pick up by enforcing pick up line procedures.
  • Manage all wardrobe purchases, fittings, and needs in coordination with Office Administrator.
  • Prepare materials for rehearsals including music binders, attendance sheets, supplies, etc.
  • Assist directors in recording attendance during choir rehearsals and at performances.
  • Communicate with families in advance of special performances, regarding attendance, and with information about tour.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Essential Qualifications

  • Energetic, friendly, and professional demeanor; enjoys customer service, working with the public, and meeting new people
  • General PC literacy; experience with Microsoft Office
  • Detail oriented
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience with stage management a plus
  • Punctual, professional and reliable; ability to work and complete tasks independently
  • General arts background or knowledge of arts in Philadelphia helpful, but not required.
  • Associate's or Bachelor’s degree preferred, but not required.  Experience will be considered in lieu of degree. 

Regular Hours

Tuesdays 5:00 – 7:30 pm

Wednesdays 4:30 – 8:30 pm

Saturdays 8:30 am – 12:30 pm

 

Additional flexible hours during performances outside of the regular hours will total up to 15 hours per week.  Starting wage $16/hour.  This is a part-time non-exempt position with evening hours and weekends.  The position is a 10-month position with no duties from mid June to mid August.
