Bird Studio

Bird Studio is an art house and fabrication studio in East Falls, Philadelphia. We specialize in fine finishes, venetian plasterwork, murals, feature walls, and gilding. We work with Philly’s top restaurants, brands, and design firms. Past and current clients include Archer & Buchanan Architecture, Carlo Fiammenghi Interior Design, Pinemar Inc, Lubert-Adler Management Co, Brandywine Realty Trust, the Comcast Center, the Kimmel Center, Suraya restaurant, Friday Saturday Sunday, and the Four Seasons Hotel.

Bird Studio is currently hiring a Craftsperson and Project Manager to join our team. This position will serve a dual purpose, and we’re looking for someone with both technical and administrative skills. 

On the making end, we’re looking for someone with a broad range of shop skills who can adapt to each unique project we take on. At base, we require a working knowledge of shop tools and carpentry. 

The following is a list of skills that we regularly utilize. *Please note*, we do not expect one person to be an expert in all of these areas. 

Construction in wood, metal, plastic, plaster, and other materials

Gilding

Fine art acrylic painting and color mixing

Decorative painting and scenic work

Sign construction and installation

Lime-based plaster application

Moldmaking

Metalwork

 

On the administrative side, we’re looking for someone who has experience with customer service and project management. This position will be responsible for managing crew members schedules and progress, as well as tracking profitability, ordering supplies, and general management of shop tools and supplies. 

The following is a list of skills that we regularly utilize. *Please note*, we do not expect one person to be an expert in all of these areas. 

Project management skills such as scheduling and on-site crew management 

Knowledge of admin tech such as Quickbooks, Airtable, Apple products

Experience with sourcing raw materials for projects and working with suppliers

Experience working with blue chip clientele

Photography and video skills 

Knowledge of interior design and technical drawings

Skills with Photoshop, Illustrator, CAD drawings

 

Each day and each project looks different at Bird Studio. We take on custom jobs from high-end residential work to creating interiors for beautiful new restaurants to working with corporate clients who need a job done right the first time. The successful member of our small team would be flexible, enjoy a wide range of tasks from day-to-day, and be detail-minded. 

 

Requirements:

5-10 years experience in related positions (building, carpentry, painting, fine finish, studio environment, mural painting, admin, project management, etc) 

Ability to work independently with direction and take ownership of projects

Reliable, timely, and a good communicator

 

Bird Studio is helmed by Zack Bird, a 3rd generation maker in Philadelphia who has a passion (some might say obsession) for offering a unique, artistic approach to design, with a foundation in historic materials and practices. The collaborative environment will give you the chance to learn from the experts here, while honing your skills on a variety of projects. 

We are hiring for a permanent employee position, but it can be structured as part or full-time for the right candidate. Competitive salary and benefits for both part or full-time. 

Most of the work will take place at our studio in East Falls, but there will also be travel to job sites in Philadelphia and beyond. Your own vehicle will be a great asset to this position.
