Salary: $48,000 - $52,000 annually, commensurate with experience

About Philadelphia Scenic Works

Philadelphia Scenic Works (PSW) is the nation’s first and only nonprofit, fully outfitted theatrical scene shop, paint space and props shop. PSW serves the Philadelphia region’s robust community of non profit theatre companies and other cultural and educational organizations by providing high-quality, affordable scenic and props fabrication, storage, and build space. Our mission is to embrace a more sustainable future through shared pools of recycled, reused, and repurposed stock and resources, while maintaining the highest artistic standards.

 

About The Position

The General Manager leads the day-to-day business operations of the shop, as well as the long-term strategic planning of the organization. The General Manager reports directly to the Board of Directors. Duties include:

  • Serves as the primary contractor and coordinator of all clients from initial point of contact through bid, build, and completion in conjunction with shop foreman .
  • Coordinates all aspects of operations including labor, trucks, dumpsters, & materials in conjunction with shop foreman 
  • Creates official quotes based on information provided by shop foreman or ATD. 
  • Directs Shop Foreman
  • Manages shop facility  including emergency response if needed
  • Ensures the shop is stocked with materials and equipment is maintained, in conjunction with Shop Foreman
  • Directs educational programming and community service projects
  • Supervises General Manager and internal institutional operations including payroll, accounting, IT, standard operating procedures and external communications including website, eblasts, client outreach, social media, donor/finder stewardship
  • Works closely with the Board of Directors to set big picture strategic plans and develop new initiatives, projects, procedures, etc.
  • Performs human resource manager duties such as hiring, onboarding, employee evaluations, labor relations, and employee exits.

Required Qualifications 

Candidates should meet all of these qualifications to apply:

  • Experience managing theatrical construction projects from start to completion
  • Strong leadership and people skills
  • Attention to details/logistics, big picture thinking
