Position Overview
The Studio School Director leads the vision, planning, and day-to-day operations of the Abington Art Center’s educational programs. This role oversees studio classes, workshops, and instructors and studio facilities while cultivating an inclusive, creative learning environment for students of all ages and backgrounds. The Director plays a key role in advancing the organization’s mission through high-quality arts education, community engagement, and sustainable program growth.
Key Responsibilities
Program Leadership & Curriculum
- Develop, oversee, and evaluate studio art classes, workshops, and special programs for youth, teens, and adults
- Ensure program offerings reflect artistic excellence, accessibility, and community interests
- Collaborate with instructors to design innovative, inclusive curricula across multiple disciplines
- Monitor enrollment, attendance, and program outcomes to guide planning and improvement
- Provide oversight of gallery exhibitions and educational programming
Faculty & Instructor Management
- Recruit, hire, onboard, and support teaching artists and instructors
- Schedule classes and instructors; manage contracts and payroll coordination
- Foster a collaborative, supportive teaching culture through regular communication and feedback
Operations & Administration
- Manage the studio school budget in collaboration with the Executive Director
- Oversee registration systems, class logistics, studio usage, and supply needs
- Ensure studios are safe, well-maintained, and equipped for instruction
- Develop and maintain policies related to education programs
Community Engagement & Outreach
- Build relationships with community partners, schools, and local artists
- Support outreach initiatives to expand access to arts education
- Represent the Studio School at events, open houses, and community meetings
- Collaborate with marketing staff on program promotion and communications
Strategic Planning & Growth
- Contribute to organizational planning and long-term educational strategy
- Identify opportunities for new programs, partnerships, and earned revenue
- Track and report on program metrics and impact
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in art, arts education, arts administration, or related field (master’s preferred)
- 3–5 years of experience in arts education, program management, or a related leadership role
- Experience working with teaching artists and community-based programs
- Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills
- Commitment to equity, access, and inclusion in arts education
- Proficiency with registration systems, scheduling tools, and budgeting

Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $50,000
