Theater Event Supervisors play a vital supervisorial, technical, and customer service role in the execution of all performances and events at Drexel University’s Mandell Theater and URBN Annex Black Box Theater. 

Description

Theater Event Supervisors play a vital supervisorial, technical, and customer service role in the execution of all performances and events at Drexel University’s Mandell Theater and URBN Annex Black Box Theater.  The theaters are home to the Drexel Department of Performing Arts dance, music and theatre programs and performance ensembles, and serve the University and outside organizations as spaces for a range of special events, lectures, films, concerts, and performances.  Event Supervisors report to the Technical Director and Managing Director, and are responsible for:

  • Leading teams of venue staff, comprised of student and independent part-time theatre technicians and house managers, plus volunteer ushers, and collaborating directly with teams of event staff from other Drexel units and from external event clients to execute events
  • Serving as event lead and Mandell or URBN Annex Black Box Theater representative when Technical Director and Managing Director are not present
  • Preparation of events prior to client arrival, and overseeing load-ins and load-outs
  • Ensuring client requests and expectations are met or exceeded within each theater’s resources and the scope of event agreements
  • Supervising front of house operations and the facility for events that may otherwise be entirely staffed by facility rental clients
  • Being trained in Adult & Pediatric Basic First Aid & CPR/AED, familiar with venue health and safety protocols, and helping to direct emergency response for campus residents and patrons in case of emergency or extreme weather
  • In addition to supervising, they actively participate in all aspects of executing each event

Qualifications

  • Technical theatre experience, including competence in lighting, sound, and audio/visual equipment
  • Event production and management
  • Live and livestreamed event logistics
  • Guest services, including front of house management, box office / registration, the safety and logistics of public audiences, and related event services
  • Leadership, customer service, organization, and problem-solving
  • Training student and young professional crews in the basic principles of theatrical production
  • Availability to work flexible hours which include days, evenings, and weekends
Education Level: 
High School Diploma or GED, plus 3 years of experience
