Position Summary
The Manager of Adult Education plays a key role in planning, designing, and delivering Fleisher’s adult programs, which are offered across four seasonal terms each year. This position is responsible for the overall strategy, quality, and day-to-day management of adult visual arts education at Fleisher. Reporting to the Director of Education and working in close collaboration with education staff and teaching faculty, the Manager ensures that Fleisher’s adult programming is inclusive, engaging, and responsive to the interests and needs of a diverse community of adult learners.
This role supervises the Coordinator of Education, who provides essential logistical and administrative support for all education programs. They also oversee a large, multidisciplinary team of teaching artists who represent a wide range of artistic practices, teaching styles, and cultural perspectives. The Manager facilitates regular communication and community-building with faculty, proactively addressing challenges and celebrating successes to strengthen relationships, foster a positive teaching culture, and ensure long-term faculty engagement and retention.
In addition to stewarding Fleisher’s long-standing foundational offerings, the Manager of Adult Education takes a forward-thinking, audience-centered approach to program development, identifying opportunities to expand Fleisher’s reach through new courses, formats, and collaborations that reflect contemporary practices and emerging interests. This includes engaging with current and prospective students, analyzing enrollment trends, and responding to the needs of Philadelphia’s diverse communities.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Program Design, Planning & Evaluation
- Design, implement, and evaluate a dynamic schedule of adult education offerings for 4 terms a year, including weekly classes, workshops, intensives, and other formats across diverse visual arts disciplines.
- Ensure programs reflect Fleisher’s commitment to accessibility, equity, and community-centered learning.
- Develop and refine course curricula and program models in collaboration with teaching faculty and education staff.
Faculty Management & Professional Development
- Recruit, hire, and onboard a diverse and inclusive faculty of teaching artists, as well as teaching assistants and class monitors.
- Support faculty through regular feedback, annual performance reviews, and ongoing communication.
- Coordinate professional development opportunities for faculty to improve teaching practice, classroom management, and cultural competency.
- Facilitate regular faculty meetings and foster a strong, respectful teaching community.
Administrative & Operational Oversight
- Oversee the adult education budget, including its creation, ongoing tracking, forecasting, and proposing adjustments as needed to align with enrollment trends, program goals, and institutional priorities.
- Work closely with the Registrar to manage the scheduling of adult classes across four program terms, ensuring accuracy and alignment with studio availability and community needs.
- Work with the Director of HR to manage payroll processes and ensure the timely completion of new hire paperwork.
- Coordinate with Education Coordinator to ensure studios are prepared, materials and equipment are available, and classes are fully supported.
- Support the refinement and ongoing development of operational policies and procedures to enhance program effectiveness and improve the overall experience for students and faculty.
Community Engagement & Relationship Management
- Serve as the primary point of contact for adult students and faculty, fostering strong relationships and maintaining responsive communication.
- Lead or support meetings with community partners and collaborators related to adult programming.
- Attend Fleisher events and public programs as needed to support organizational visibility and engagement.

Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in arts education program management, preferably in a community-based or nonprofit setting.
- Demonstrated success in designing and implementing curriculum and programming specifically for adult learners in the visual arts.
- Strong leadership and supervisory skills, including direct experience managing teaching artists, faculty, or education staff.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple timelines and priorities.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented and cross-functional environment.
- Commitment to accessibility, equity, and inclusion in educational programming.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with equity-based teaching practices and inclusive curriculum design.
- Experience working with diverse communities and multicultural learning environments.
- Comfort with or interest in data-informed program evaluation and adapting offerings based on participant feedback.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
- Schedule: Full-time, on-site. During program terms, the standard schedule is Monday–Thursday, 11:00 a.m.–7:00 p.m., and Friday, 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. Occasionally, evening or weekend hours may be required to support special events or program needs.
- Physical Requirements: Due to the layout of Fleisher’s historic building, the role may require the ability to navigate stairs and lift up to 25 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Compensation & Benefits:
- Salary range: $55,000 - $60,000 annually, commensurate with experience
